Two-Day Pottery Workshops
with Joni Mazzie

Creating functional art pieces to treasure or give as a gift. Workshops will consist of learning about coil and/or slab techniques with a little bit of clay history thrown in. Projects will take two sessions to complete.

$35 for each 2-Part Workshop / Please include $10 material fee

Beginner's Adult Pottery Classes
with Joni Mazzie

It's a great time to try something new! Beginner's Adult Pottery Classes will provide a fun and supportive environment to learn how to throw on the potter's wheel. We will work towards completing 3 different projects and learn a little history of pottery.

SENIORS: Discover Your Unexplored Talent in Art

Here's an opportunity to take the art classes you always wanted to but never did. This will be an exploration of yourself through art.

Clay Critters

Clay Critters class includes the basics of using clay to hand build, wheel throw, and surface decorate ceramic clay!

Writing the Everyday
with Chris Liek

Over the course of the class, we'll read and reflect on pieces of poetry, fiction and nonfiction that lie in the everyday truth and beauty of our lives, the places we're from and the work we do. Students will generate new writing and have the opportunity to workshop their pieces in a safe, confidential and encouraging space.

Art Appreciation Lecture
with Mark Charles Rooney

Art appreciation is a lecture and discussion class on art historical topics, such as Andy Warhol and Pop art, Caravaggio and the Baroque, Jackson Pollock and Abstract Expressionism, etc.

Basic Drawing
with Mark Charles Rooney

Basic drawing is learning to "draw what you see" using still life as subject matter. Bring your own pencils, charcoals, and pastels.

Creative Writing Workshop
with Alexis Collazo

A generative prompt-based writing workshop with supportive and
encouraging feedback. Prompts are provided as inspiration for 5-20 minute writing sessions. Participants can share their writing and receive feedback from the group if they choose. Feedback will focus only on the positive aspects of writing.

Tapestry Weaving
with Amanda Seanor

In this four week class, learn the basics of tapestry weaving using a small tapestry loom and different weaving structures. Leave the class with your own small finished tapestry and the loom to keep you going. Students will be given a link the purchase the loom (approx.$20) prior to class.

Pysanky Egg
with Georgine Borchick

Students will learn Balta Country style folk art originating in Ukraine from an expert that has taught in the style for almost 60 years.

Indigo Shibori Dyeing
with Rowan Shaffer

Shibori dyeing (the predecessor to tie-dyeing) is the Japanese art of dyeing textiles. This class will cover the basics of dyeing with indigo (the traditional dye used to create shibori dyed textiles) as well as the basic techniques used to create shibori patterns.

Silkscreen Printing
with Rowan Shaffer ​

In this class, we will cover how to silkscreen print artwork and textiles using easily-accessible methods. Each week will cover a new project. Students will learn single and multi-color printing and how to print fabric yardage. The techniques we will be learning are the same techniques used in t-shirt shops and can be used to start printing at home.

Intro to Stitched Books
with Rowan Shaffer

In this class, students will learn how to make hand-stitched blank sketchbooks via a variety of methods such as long stitching and Coptic stitching. Each week will cover a new book binding technique. No sewing experience or bookmaking experience required - this course is beginner friendly! Note: Some sharp tools will be used during this class.

Foundations of Ukulele from a Classical_
with Damien Quick

We will be taking the ukulele beyond simple chords into more comprehensive and complex musical genres. We will also be learning music theory. Must have a ukulele. Beginner to Intermediate. Adult preferred 18+

Hand Built Stuffed Animals
with Stacey Faustner

In this class, we will explore how to create handmade stuffed animals/plushies. We will go over patterns, assembly, different stitch types, seams stuffing, and adding features like eyes and noses. You can bring or design your own simple pattern or use one the instructor provides.

Cooking in Tandem
With Jennifer O'Malley

A series of partnered cooking classes for two. We will explore the different techniques of the Italian culinary world like: pasta making, gnocchi making, pizza making, dough making, and more!

The instructor is open to someone wanting to "buy out the event for a group event, party, or charity, etc.

Hand Built (Functional) Pottery
with Stacey Faustner

In this class, we will explore hand built pottery. We will use coiling techniques to make two different types of projects. The first day we will create a coil. The next day we will glaze the coil pots and create a hand built phone speaker amplifier. The third class we will glaze the speakers and use any leftover time to learn some wheel throwing pottery techniques.

Creative Nonfiction- Memoir
with Chris Liek

Everyone has a story to tell. And because of that we all have the ability to make a connection with our readers. This class will focus on transferring our lives and experiences to paper and possibly uncovering something about ourselves we never knew before. Students will read a variety of short memoirs and generate their own to workshop and share in a safe, confidential and exciting space.

REFUNDS: No refunds for cancellations less than 10 days before classes begin. A $10.00 administrative fee will be charged for all cancellations. Classes we cancel will be refunded in full. Classes canceled due to the weather or other unforeseen causes may run an extra week to make up for the day(s) missed.

Scholarships are available

for children and senior citizens to take classes at the Hazleton Art League!


Thanks to a grant from the Rotary Club, we can provide art scholarships to senior citizens in the Hazleton Area.

Senior scholarships cover 60% of class fee for seniors age 62 and older.


We also have a need based scholarship for children made possible by the Dorothy Sacco Memorial Fund.

Youth scholarships cover 50% of the class fee.
