College Art Preparation

Instructor: Rowan Shaffer

This class will help prepare students for a college art environment while introducing them to media that is not commonly introduced in high school settings.

Students will learn how to write an artist statement and resume/CV, gallery etiquette, how to build a portfolio, and will also discuss the pros and cons of different types of art education. We will also host an optional portfolio review for students looking for feedback.

Students will also learn art techniques that are not traditionally taught in a high school setting, and will be able to use the art produced in this class in applications to programs should they do choose.

Techniques covered include: darkroom photography, fiber art, printmaking, book making, installation and other non-traditional and contemporary art techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to document these works for their own portfolio uses.
